One Thursday morning I received a note by the bed from my boyfriend. I woke up and saw it right away. I always love receiving notes from him, like most girls I’m sure, so I read that we were going to have a date and that I should be home and ready by 5.

It seemed to me that maybe we were planning on going to dinner or something but when I arrived to the steps of our two story condo there were rose petals crawling up the stairs to our door. The door was locked so I was anxiously awaiting for him to come to the door.

We did an overly romantic Valentine’s Day only a few months ago so my initial thought was not proposal, only the best boyfriend ever! I walked in to a song list of my favorites and the house was filled with flowers, cake, champagne, candles, etc. He immediately started dancing with me and this is where I knew something was up. He was holding me tight and close then before I knew it he was on one knee with a box.

I immediately started asking myself if this was real. Although I knew we would be together forever I didn’t quite imagine the day I would become engaged. We then shared a wonderful evening together with a few friends at our home. It was so unexpected and so romantic. I am beyond a lucky girl.

My husband took me to The Loop (the site of our first date) for dinner and a walk on the beach. After what seemed like 30 MILES, we stopped to write notes to each other in the sand. When I turned around, Mike was on one knee with four words beside him: “WILL YOU MARRY ME?”

My husband and I were only engaged for six months, and we pulled it off with the help of our family, friends, and wonderful vendors. We had the pleasure of working with professionals in all areas of the business.

Our ceremony and reception were just as we wanted...the entire staff (and Pastor’s wife) from First Presbyterian were so kind in making the ceremony go off without a hitch: the music, processional/recessional, and most importantly, the vows, homily, etc. were very important to us.....

The story started weeks before the actual event. Once Pat decided he wanted to pop the question, he knew he had to do it right. After asking my dad for my hand,he arranged a dinner with both families and formally announced to them his intentions. Somehow he managed to keep this all secret from me, which is amazing knowing my family.

He bought a ring, which everyone at home got to see, still without me knowing. He decided to ask me while he was in California for my graduation from Naval Postgraduate School. Due to a delayed flight, his plan to ask me the day before did not work out. Following the graduation ceremony, we took a walk to Lover's Point (how appropriate, right) down by the bay. The story was that we were going to take a walk before we met Dad for dinner. We were looking out at the bay and he started saying stuff that I do not remember now because once I saw him pull the box out of his pocket my mind went blank. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I think my actual response was "Well, duh!" or maybe "Hell yeah". Not sure. The best part was that he told me to turn around and when I did, out popped Dad from, behind a tree with his camera. He had been able to watch the whole thing AND get pictures!
