Our proposal took place in my backyard on the night we both graduated from Saint Leo University, at our graduation party. During the party he wanted to go outside to "take pictures," and I kept telling him let’s wait until everyone starts leaving because it is rude to leave a party to take pictures. I finally agreed to go outside and take a few pictures because a few people had left and I was getting tired of him bugging me. Several pictures were taken and all of a sudden, he dropped down and pulled out a little box, opened it and said "Will you marry me?"

Later, he shared the story of how he got the ring. So, Josh knew how picky I was about not having the same ring as everyone else. He wanted to make sure it was top quality and he knew that my cousin Joey, who owns a jewelry store in Pennsylvania, would help him accomplish that. On his two days off from work, he drove all the way from Florida to North Carolina to pick up my cousin and best friend, Michelle. They then drove to Pennsylvania to purchase that special ring. Just the thought and effort that was taken in getting the ring makes it that much more meaningful.

Jacksonville FL Wedding: Blended To Perfection!

We already talked about getting engaged, but I didn’t think Raj was going to propose within two weeks of talking about it! He bought a tiny messenger bag for my dog and wrote love notes sending my dog to me. He did this three times! Then finally, my dog Sammy, had a box in the bag. It was empty, but Raj came out of the corner and knelt down. The rest, as they say, is history.

We had two ceremonies. The first was a Hindu Ceremony. It was beautiful and colorful. Our priest did a really good job of explaining the traditions and rituals. The second ceremony was the Christian Ceremony. It was very serene and beautiful. The pastor did an excellent job guiding us and making sure we say the right things. Our reception was awesome. All of the guests were on the floor dancing. Even my dad did an impromptu karaoke.

Josh's proposal happened when we were on vacation in San Francisco. It was around our one year anniversary and I could tell something was up because he is normally so relaxed, but the whole vacation he was a little on edge. I got an even better idea when his brother kept calling and all Josh was saying was "not yet" every time he called. That was a pretty big spoiler!

Well, we got to the last day and no proposal, so I just assumed it wasn't going to happen because we were getting ready to leave. Then I found a note on the nightstand that said, "Will you marry me?" I walked into the around the corner by the closet and Josh had the ring in his hand. He asked if I would and I said yes (I think) and the whole flight home I was already making plans!

One Thursday morning I received a note by the bed from my boyfriend. I woke up and saw it right away. I always love receiving notes from him, like most girls I’m sure, so I read that we were going to have a date and that I should be home and ready by 5.

It seemed to me that maybe we were planning on going to dinner or something but when I arrived to the steps of our two story condo there were rose petals crawling up the stairs to our door. The door was locked so I was anxiously awaiting for him to come to the door.

We did an overly romantic Valentine’s Day only a few months ago so my initial thought was not proposal, only the best boyfriend ever! I walked in to a song list of my favorites and the house was filled with flowers, cake, champagne, candles, etc. He immediately started dancing with me and this is where I knew something was up. He was holding me tight and close then before I knew it he was on one knee with a box.

I immediately started asking myself if this was real. Although I knew we would be together forever I didn’t quite imagine the day I would become engaged. We then shared a wonderful evening together with a few friends at our home. It was so unexpected and so romantic. I am beyond a lucky girl.

A Proposal to Get Pumped Up About! by: Beth Sullivan

Tradition speaks loudly when it comes to wedding shoes. They should be classy, feminine, and simple. But, a bride’s shoes are not limited anymore to stilettos, mules, and kitten heels in ivory or white satin. The future of flexibility is allowing brides to express themselves with clouds of colorful creations.

If I could only go back in time four years to my own wedding day, I would have loved to have walked down the aisle in a pair of fabulous, sparkling, peep toe pumps instead of my plain white satin heels! Let’s face it; white is, and always will be, timeless and classy. But these days it’s never been more fun to strut down the isle in some sassy, flashy, chic heels! And, what woman can say she simply doesn’t love shoes? Take the famous scene from Sex and the City the Movie, for example. Even Carrie Bradshaw is proposed to with a shoe! A Manolo Blahnik, none-the-less, but it’s no wonder this hot trend is around, and getting so much attention these days!

Modern wedding traditions are allowing for a more personal flare to your wedding. There is no reason why brides should restrain their individual styles! Wedding shoes provide opportunities and brides are welcome to take them. A wedding is, first and foremost, the bride’s day. She can proclaim her Nikes as her wedding shoes and no one is allowed to object or judge her. However, there are still some style “rules” you should try to stay true to if you are having a themed wedding. Here are some style suggestions from Sei Bella Image Consulting.

There are four basic themes; the fairy tale, the outdoor or garden, the beach, and the travel wedding.

The Fairy Tale Theme:

This is most popular for brides who want to be a princess, but still remain on the safe side. Try a beautiful, sparkly, colorful stiletto or pump, or even a dainty lace-up boot. These will look fabulous with fuller skirts, flashy tiaras, and/or sleeved dresses. If you’re going for the princess-look, stay away from sandals and wedges. These looks are inviting, but don’t necessarily compliment the image of the wedding. So, have fun with the colors, but stay true to your fairy tale theme.

Garden Wedding:

Spring or summer themes allow for dresses with light-weight materials. To complement the flow of the bridal dress, shoes should be airy and soft; like sandals. Pointy pumps and high heels can sink into the ground, and make for an uncomfortable day. But, jeweled slippers with beads and embellishments are fabulous choices. Your shoes for this theme should always be comfortable and relaxed to season the summery setting. I’ve also seen some bold brides with an outdoor theme attempt the cowboy boot look. There’s nothing like seeing a daring bride hike up her skirt to reveal a pair of classic cowboys with her romantic dress. There’s something to be said about her style, guts, and flare.

Beach Wedding:

Strappy heels and powerful pumps are out because of the sand. But, this makes for a highlighted opportunity to wear funky flip-flops and fun, flat thong sandals. Embellishments like rhinestones complement the beach vibe best. And, don’t forget to make the colors pop!

Travel-themed and Ethnic weddings:

These weddings are becoming popular with jetsetter couples. Star inspirations are Japanese, Arabian, and African cultures. A geisha-inspired dress merits wooden platforms, for example. You can even try a jewel-toned sexy, satin slipper with any of these looks.

Overall, the color-scheme is up to you. Finding a fun pop of color or sparkle to peek from under your gown will surely grab attention! Forget the rules when it comes to colors, and find a flare that’s all your own. Just try to stay true to the style and theme of your wedding. Another idea; try a more traditional shoe for your ceremony, and step into something uniquely yours for the reception! The possibilities are endless!

My husband took me to The Loop (the site of our first date) for dinner and a walk on the beach. After what seemed like 30 MILES, we stopped to write notes to each other in the sand. When I turned around, Mike was on one knee with four words beside him: “WILL YOU MARRY ME?”

My husband and I were only engaged for six months, and we pulled it off with the help of our family, friends, and wonderful vendors. We had the pleasure of working with professionals in all areas of the business.

Our ceremony and reception were just as we wanted...the entire staff (and Pastor’s wife) from First Presbyterian were so kind in making the ceremony go off without a hitch: the music, processional/recessional, and most importantly, the vows, homily, etc. were very important to us.....
