Tyler Southern is a local marine from Jacksonville, FL that last year, stepped on a IED in Afghanistan. In result, he became a triple amputee. Wedding services in the Jacksonville community decided to throw Tyler and Ashley Southern the best wedding ever by donating everything they could ever need to make their day the perfect day. Tyler's charm and wit made those involved feel more comfortable while getting dressed even though things are a little more different then he was used to doing before. Since Tyler is most stable in his Converse Tennis Shoes, Ashley wore a pair of pink ones to match and even guests arrived wearing tennis shoes. Operation "Thumbs-Up" was a huge success and Tyler and Ashley couldn't be more grateful for everything that's been provided for them. The story started weeks before the actual event. Once Pat decided he wanted to pop the question, he knew he had to do it right. After asking my dad for my hand,he arranged a dinner with both families and formally announced to them his intentions. Somehow he managed to keep this all secret from me, which is amazing knowing my family.

He bought a ring, which everyone at home got to see, still without me knowing. He decided to ask me while he was in California for my graduation from Naval Postgraduate School. Due to a delayed flight, his plan to ask me the day before did not work out. Following the graduation ceremony, we took a walk to Lover's Point (how appropriate, right) down by the bay. The story was that we were going to take a walk before we met Dad for dinner. We were looking out at the bay and he started saying stuff that I do not remember now because once I saw him pull the box out of his pocket my mind went blank. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I think my actual response was "Well, duh!" or maybe "Hell yeah". Not sure. The best part was that he told me to turn around and when I did, out popped Dad from, behind a tree with his camera. He had been able to watch the whole thing AND get pictures!

I’m a photographer, so Brent proposed with photos on my camera. One totally random night, I was sitting at my desk working as usual and he came in the room sort of flustered, and said, “Tonya! So, let’s suppose you met the guy, or the lady, with whom you’ll spend the rest of your life. What’s next? (Enter the Government.) You have to buy a license to get married. No waiting period. No special testing. Just go on down to the County Clerk’s office (both of you) bring cash and a picture I.D., and get signed up. It is the easiest part of the whole process!

Regular License

The Regular Marriage License is the kind most people use and the only kind available in the state of Florida. It is regulated by the State but it is issued by the County Clerk or Recorder in each County.

Local Weddings: Marshall & Elizabeth

All of the people that are closest to Elizabeth call her Ed. And “unique wedding” doesn’t even begin to describe the wedding that Ed and Marshall planned for March 27, 2010. The wedding was held on their property near St. Augustine, Florida.

Coca Cola in the glass bottle, Gus the dog was the best man, river putting, the bride wore boots under her wedding dress, the groom wore flip flops with his tux, the flower girls in tutus and high top Chuck Taylors, a swing, poetry, lots of prayers and lots of tears, a private comment made by the bride before she realized her new husband was mic’d and the videographer was listening in, a bouquet of succulent plants and yellow balls, bales of hay covered in quilts offered guest seating during the ceremony, sparklers, bubbles, special wood pedestals that Elizabeth’s dad carved by hand, red velvet, chunky monkey, chocolate mint and vanilla cupcakes….

Changing Your Records: Some of the First Things You Do Before the Big Day

The shock begins when you realize that your personal pronouns are no longer the same. Practically useless are the words: my, mine, me, I, replaced by their plurals: our, ours, us, we, and so forth. When you take the plunge, folks, your legal identity can (and normally does) change completely. Usually, only the women change names. But, guess what, guys! You can do it, too!

There’s no law that says the wife must give up her identity. In fact, neither person is required to change his or her name. Or, if he wants to, the husband can change his name instead...
